Author Liesbet Slegers, Children's Books

I wanted to share two different children book series written by the talented writer Liesbet Slegers.

The Guess What series contains titles that include but not limited to,Guess What I Hear?, Guess What I See? Guess Who I Am? and Guess What I Feel?

Clavis Books

As we all know children love to play guessing games, and Ms. Slegers uses this inquisitive approach to engage young toddlers. After listening to the question, they will see four pictures on the facing page to choose an answer. By choosing correctly they will make a text connection. They get to find out by lifting a flap what the answer should be. I love the responsive Q & A format of this series and I know children will love them too.

For example: Drip. Splash. Water is falling from the sky. Drip. Splash. It falls on the flowers and on the grass... What do I hear?

The Kevin and Katie series is about two small children who face familiar events all young kids experience at some time. The simply drawn pudgy characters look like early childhood drawings. Their clothes stand out in bold primary colors often revealing a little belly button adding to their loving appeal for children.
Clavis Books
Reading Level: 7+

Some titles that were examined were Kevin and Katie, Katie Moves, Kevin Discovers Spring, Katie Discovers Summer, Kevin Goes to School. You can't miss with these stories that hit upon the heart of the emotions and the wonder of new life experiences. Appropriate for 2+ years.

Animal fun touch and feel board books by Ticktock Media, Ltd

Published by Ticktock Media, Ltd.
May, 2009

This series of preschool board books have just the right combination of rhyming verse with inserted cutouts of various tactile surfaces to engage inquisitive listeners. These science based concept books are adorable. Their vibrant eye-catching pictures are an engaging source for teaching counting, colors, opposites and simple first words with funny rhyme and verse. The textures vary from a soft supple patent leather of an Orca whale to a sandpaper starfish. These books are tempting treats for the young tots. Read alone 4-5 year old, read independently 6+ years.

Among the titles examined were: Zoom Into Space, Ocean, Dinosaurs, Garden, Farm, Under the Ocean with the Little Yellow Submarine, At the Beach with Snappy the Little Crab and my personal favorite, Jungle.

Good Night Our World Series and other board books...

Good Night Our World Series....Board Books

Board books have been around a very very long time. If you think about it, tablets made out of wood held together with leather tongs were a primitive version. They could be easily wiped clean and used again in schools. What we see in today's market is a highly sophisticated form of this early board book. Just think of all of the imaginative board books you have seen in the stores for the young that activate the senses: touch, smell, hearing, taste, and sight. Series of books, licensed books with favorite television and movie characters, books with accessories, books with CD's and pop-ups, puzzles, and so much more. So for the next few posts I have many board books to share with you.

Board books are just great for young children who don't quite have the developmental dexterity to handle paper pages without ripping them. They are just right for small hands. Most important I think is they withstand the high usage they get when you here the welcomed pleading of an emergent reader say, " Can we read________again?"

The Good Night Our World Series is a wonderfully entertaining board book series with vivid illustrations for young children. Age appropriate for 3-7 year old children depending on whether it is used as a read aloud or read alone. One of the main writers for the series is Adam Gamble and most books are illustrated by Cooper Kelley. The teaming is a great combination that benefits kids. Each book takes the reader on a visit to a different environment to learn about the world. Some titles for example are Good Night Farm, Good Night World, Good Night World, Good Night Zoo to name a few.
I think they will be a great hit with children everywhere.
